I am on a budget so I am always looking for inexpensive gifts I can make for Christmas. I haven't made this years gifts yet. The kids and I are going to work on them this week. I will have photos and a post up next week. I wanted to share this personalized dish towel idea we made last year. Super easy and super cute!

I picked up these hand towels in the kitchen department at Walmart. The cost was like $4 dollars for five towels. We used 2oz bottles of acrylic craft paint, you could use fabric paint, but this was what I had at the house. The kids each picked their favorite color. I used a sponge brush to paint a thin layer of paint on to their hands.I helped them firmly place their hands on to the towel and lift strait up, as not to smug. (You should practice on a piece of paper first to make sure you don't have to much or to little paint.) Grab a helper for the littlest hands, my hubby stepped into help me, so I could hold everything in place and so she couldn't wipe her hands on her clothes. Use a fabric marker to write a special message, names and a date. Your all done. Don't forget to let the paint cure, or set before you wash the towel.
*** I had a question about the acrylic paint being water based and washing out.
I have one towel I kept for myself. I have washed it a least 20+ times. Is has faded a little, but the image is still there. You need to give the paint time to set before you wash it. Usually over night. You could also add fabric medium to the paint. That will set it for sure. Ideally purchase fabric paint. My method wasn't ideal. But like I said I was short on cash and used what I had. :)
